Welcome to the online schedule for the Lab for Writing and Communication! Here, you can book appointments with the Writing Center and the Communication Center. To access the schedule, please log in using the form to the left. Enter your email address and password, then click the bubble next to which schedule you want to access (Writing Center, Thesis/Diss Writers, or Communication Center). If you are making an appointment for a Comm 101 assignment, please make sure to select the Communication Center schedule.

You can also navigate between schedules after you log in. Use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to choose your preferred schedule: the Writing Center, the Communication Center, or Thesis/Dissertation Writers.

For Spring 2023, the Lab offers both in-person and online appointments. If you’re booking a Writing Center appointment, you can choose from the following formats:

  • Face-to-Face - you meet your consultant in person in our on-campus space, JC 227E
  • Written Feedback - you upload a draft, and your consultant sends you written feedback
  • Zoom (real-time) - you meet the consultant online in real time using the videoconferencing software Zoom

If you’re booking a Communication Center appointment, you can choose between Face-to-Face or Zoom formats.

When you make your appointment, please choose the format you prefer. If you select a Zoom appointment, your consultant will email you a link to join the session. Please open your Mason email 5-10 minutes before the appointment start time so that you may receive the link.

For online appointments, please upload your draft and assignment prompt to your appointment at least 30 minutes before the appointment begins. You may do so using the upload feature on the appointment form.

If the day or time you want is booked, you can put yourself on the waiting list by clicking the "Waiting List" link at the bottom right corner of the schedule on your preferred appointment day. If an appointment opens up, the system will send everyone on the waiting list a message. The first person to log on and book the opening will get the appointment.

If you have any questions, please contact us: wcenter@gmu.edu for the Writing Center, and gmspeech@gmu.edu for the Communication Center.

Though Writing Center appointment slots are one hour long, tutoring sessions last 45 minutes. The last 15 minutes are reserved for the tutor to complete paperwork and prepare for their next session.

All Communication Center appointments are 30 minutes long.
